Which Jerith Models This Applies To

The Ornamental series uses 1-inch square pickets with a .062 wall thickness; Classic uses 5/8-inch pickets at .048 wall; Accent uses a heavier .080 wall for high-wind zones. The series name is stamped on the underside of the bottom rail, visible if you crouch and look up at the rail from ground level. If that label is painted over or corroded, measure the picket width with a tape measure - the difference between 5/8 and 1 inch is obvious, and getting it wrong means a rail that won’t accept the pickets.

There’s no high-tension danger with aluminum fence work, but there are two places DIY goes wrong fast. First, post footings: Jerith’s limited lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects, not installation. A post poured in a 24-inch hole with bagged concrete will stand upright for a month, then lean when the first winter storm saturates the sand. Second, gate alignment: a gate that looks level on the ground binds when hung, and the adjustment is in the post plumb, not the gate frame. We check plumb with a 4-foot level, not a torpedo level, because a 1/4-inch error at the post top becomes a 1.5-inch latch miss at the gate edge.

What you can safely check: the series label under the bottom rail, the picket width with a tape measure, and whether the post moves when you grip it at shoulder height and push.
