Cambria Driveway & Pavers: The Huntington Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cambria-compatible pavers and driveway surfacing in Huntington Beach, with most paver driveway replacements running $7,000-$18,000 and concrete driveway installations at $4,500-$12,000 depending on substrate condition and square footage. Cambria’s quartz-based paver systems, particularly their coastal-grade lines, are specified for salt-air environments like ours, but the polymer-modified jointing sand and edge restraint systems fail before the pavers themselves. Most Huntington Beach owners first notice the problem when weeds push through joints that used to stay tight, or when individual pavers start rocking underfoot after winter storms.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria’s hardscape line breaks into two systems relevant to Huntington Beach installations: the Coastal Series (introduced 2019, 60mm and 80mm thicknesses) and the earlier Standard Paver line (discontinued 2021 but still common in Bolsa Chica and downtown rebuilds). The Coastal Series uses a proprietary interlock geometry, 3.875-inch by 7.75-inch module, with a beveled edge that differs from Belgard’s equivalent by about 1/32 inch, enough to throw off joint alignment if you mix manufacturers mid-repair.

To identify your series, flip a loose paver. Coastal Series stamps the batch code on the bedding face, Standard on the vertical edge. The part that fails first is almost never the paver body, it’s the edge restraint spike (Coastal uses a 10-inch galvanized stake, Standard used 8-inch) and the polymeric sand specification, Coastal requiring ASTM C-144 gradation where Standard accepted finer joint fill. We carry both OEM Cambria edge kits and a Techo-Bloc-compatible equivalent that meets the same pull-out resistance spec at roughly 60% of Cambria’s list price. For warranty-registered Coastal Series installations still under Cambria’s 25-year structural guarantee, we source OEM to preserve coverage. Out of warranty, the Techo-Bloc equivalent performs identically in our salt-air testing.

Signs Your Cambria Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Cambria Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Weeds or moss in joints that were previously clean. The polymeric sand has degraded, usually from UV exposure combined with Huntington Beach’s marine layer moisture cycling. Once the binder washes out, organic matter seeds in the void and the joint loses interlock strength.
  • Individual pavers rock or click under vehicle weight. The bedding layer has eroded or the edge restraint has pulled its stakes. On sloped driveways near Pacific Coast Highway, we’ve seen this accelerate where downspouts dump concentrated flow onto the pavement.
  • Surface spalling or chalking on the paver face. Cambria’s quartz composite resists this better than concrete pavers, but de-icing salt buildup from garage drip zones will etch the surface over five to seven years. The fix is paver replacement, not sealing.
  • Standing water that didn’t pool originally. The bedding sand has migrated, creating low spots. In Huntington Beach’s clay-heavy soils near the wetlands, frost heave isn’t the culprit, it’s gopher burrow collapse or tree root displacement from the ficus and magnolia plantings common in 1980s tract homes.
  • Edge restraint visible above grade or completely detached. The plastic or aluminum edging has either lost its stakes to corrosion or the stakes pulled through saturated soil. We see this most often on north-facing driveways where the marine layer lingers until noon and keeps soil moisture elevated.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Huntington Beach driveway, paver replacement runs $7,000-$18,000 installed, with concrete driveway installation at $4,500-$12,000 if you’re switching materials. The spread depends on three factors: square footage, substrate condition, and whether we need to match discontinued Cambria colors. A 400-square-foot driveway with sound aggregate base and accessible edge restraints sits at the low end. If we pull up the pavers and find the bedding layer contaminated with tree roots or the base crushed from years of RV parking, we strip to grade and rebuild, which pushes toward the upper range.

Our quotes itemize: paver or concrete material per square foot, bedding and base reconstruction if needed, edge restraint system, polymeric sand or control joint specification, and disposal. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price is delivered before any work starts. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers installation defects; material warranty runs through Cambria or Techo-Bloc directly. We pull permits when the scope triggers Huntington Beach’s paving ordinance, typically on any driveway connecting to a public right-of-way where the grade changes.

There’s one check any owner can do safely: lift a corner paver with a flat pry bar and examine the bedding layer. If you see clean, sharp-edged crushed aggregate still packed tight, the base is likely sound. If it’s mud, root matter, or sand that pours like sugar, the repair is beyond a weekend project.

What goes wrong in DIY paver repair is compaction sequencing. A plate compactor on fresh bedding sand sets the interlock; skip it, and the pavers settle in six months. Edge restraint installation looks simple but the stake angle and embedment depth are spec-dependent, Cambria Coastal requiring 45-degree setback at 8-inch depth for the 10-inch stake. Get it wrong and the whole field migrates. We don’t recommend DIY on any driveway carrying vehicle loads, the liability and rework cost exceed the savings.
