Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech organizes its vinyl fencing into three series lines, and the parts are not cross-compatible between them. The CertaGrain series uses a textured surface with a 0.060-inch wall thickness and proprietary rail-to-post bracket that snaps over a molded ear rather than screwing through the face. The Chelsea and New Lexington lines share a smoother finish and a thinner 0.050-inch wall, but their bottom rails use different internal stiffener dimensions - 1-1/4 inch square on Chelsea, 1-1/2 inch on New Lexington. The Sequoia picket fence uses its own bracket geometry entirely.

To identify your series, check the inside face of an end post for a stamped date code and series abbreviation; Bufftech marks these about 8 inches from the top on the rail-pocket side. If the stamp’s faded, measure the wall thickness with a caliper at a cut end, or photograph the rail bracket profile from below. We check this by measuring diagonal corner-to-corner - more than 1/2 inch difference means the frame is twisting.
• Picket tops discolor or become brittle. Bufftech’s TiO2 UV cap is 0.015 inch thick; once it’s gone, the substrate chalks and cracks. We see this first on the south- and west-facing runs in Huntington Beach, where afternoon sun hits hardest.
• Concrete footings heave or tilt. This isn’t a Bufftech parts issue but it destroys the fence. Huntington Beach’s sandy loam drains fast but doesn’t hold a post plumb without proper depth - 24 inches minimum for a 6-foot panel, with a bell-shaped footing to resist uplift.
