Boral Fence Installation: The Huntington Beach Owner’s Guide

Boral fence installation in Huntington Beach typically runs $3,500-$9,000 for a complete residential project, with most single-family lots falling in the $4,500-$6,500 range depending on linear footage and substrate conditions. We stock Boral-compatible posts, rails, and infill panels for same-week scheduling, and we’ll put the exact number in writing before anyone digs a post hole. Most Huntington Beach owners realize their Boral fence is failing when the coastal salt air has corroded through the aluminum rail brackets or the composite pickets have started delaminating after five or six years of morning fog and afternoon sun.

Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral’s fencing line in the North American market breaks into three series: the Boral TruExterior fence system (cellular PVC trim and pickets), the Boral StoneGate composite fence (co-extruded capstock over recycled wood fiber), and the earlier Boral Classic PVC fence that was common in Orange County from roughly 2012 to 2018. The TruExterior and StoneGate series use different rail dimensions - TruExterior runs a true 2×4 rail profile, while StoneGate uses a proprietary 1.875-inch by 3.625-inch rail that looks like standard dimensional lumber but isn’t. Check the inside face of the post cap or the underside of the bottom rail for the stamped series mark; if it’s faded, measure the rail width with a tape measure. TruExterior will read 1.5 inches by 3.5 inches actual, StoneGate will read slightly under. We carry both rail brackets and the stainless fasteners Boral specifies, not the zinc-coated hardware that big-box stores stock, which is the compatibility gotcha that shortens lifespan in Huntington Beach’s salt-laden air. Aftermarket rail brackets exist for StoneGate, but the tolerances are loose enough that we’ve seen wind rattle wear through the finish in two seasons. For TruExterior, the OEM bracket is worth the extra cost - the pocket depth is precise and the drainage channel actually works.

Signs Your Boral Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Boral Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Rails pulling out of posts at the bracket. The Boral rail bracket uses a two-screw connection into the post sleeve; when the sleeve material fatigues from thermal cycling, the screws strip their holes. You’ll see a gap between rail end and post face, and the fence will rack visibly when you push it.
  • Picket tops turning chalky or fuzzy. On StoneGate, this means the capstock layer has UV-degraded, exposing the wood-fiber core to moisture. Once the core wets, freeze-thaw isn’t the issue in Huntington Beach, but mold feeding on the cellulose is - you’ll get black streaking within a season.
  • Post leaning at the concrete footing. Boral posts are hollow vinyl or composite over a structural insert; the insert can corrode if the post cap seal failed and water pooled inside. The post feels solid until you grip it and realize it’s rotating in the footing.
  • Gate dragging or binding. Boral gates use a steel frame inside the composite skin; when the frame rusts from the inside out, the gate goes out of square. The latch won’t meet the striker, and you’ll see diagonal cracking in the composite skin at the corners.
  • Bottom rail bulging or separating from pickets. This is trapped water expanding the rail cavity, usually from sprinkler overspray hitting the fence daily. In Huntington Beach’s dense lots, the side-yard fence often catches the neighbor’s irrigation - the damage shows first at ground level where drainage is poorest.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Huntington Beach lot with 80 to 120 linear feet of Boral fence, replacement runs $3,500-$9,000 installed. The low end assumes good soil conditions, no stucco or concrete demolition, and reusing existing gates. The high end covers hillside grading, removal of a failed concrete footing that needs re-poured to 24 inches minimum depth per Huntington Beach building code, and a full gate rebuild with new steel frame. Our quote breaks into line items: demolition and haul-away, posts and concrete, rails and pickets per linear foot, gate assembly if applicable, and finish hardware. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price is the price - no change order gets signed unless you ask for something extra. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; Boral’s material warranty runs 25 years on TruExterior and 20 years on StoneGate, but it’s prorated after year ten and doesn’t cover labor for removal and reinstall. We document the pre-existing condition with photos before we start, so there’s no dispute about what was already wrong.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s nothing dangerous about fence work the way there is with garage door springs or gas lines, but there are two places DIY goes wrong on Boral specifically. First, post depth: Huntington Beach’s sandy loam drains fast but doesn’t hold a post plumb the way clay would. The temptation is to go shallow and add more concrete; the right move is deeper with less concrete and proper tamping, which takes longer than a rental auger and a weekend. Second, the rail-to-post connection: Boral’s bracket spacing is exact, and if you field-modify with non-OEM hardware, the expansion gap goes wrong and the pickets buckle in July heat. What you can safely check yourself is whether the post is rotating in the footing (grab and wiggle) and whether the post cap is intact (water entry point). If either fails, the repair is bigger than a bracket swap.
