Atlas shingles use a proprietary Core4 polymer modifier in the asphalt. Aftermarket underlayment must be rated for modified-bitumen contact, or the adhesive bond degrades in 18-24 months. • Dark patches where algae has taken hold. Atlas Pinnacle Pristine includes Scotchgard algae resistance, but the copper granules deplete after 10 years in Huntington Beach’s humid marine layer. This is cosmetic until the granule loss exposes asphalt.
