The TruExterior and StoneGate series use different rail dimensions - TruExterior runs a true 2×4 rail profile, while StoneGate uses a proprietary 1.875-inch by 3.625-inch rail that looks like standard dimensional lumber but isn’t. Check the inside face of the post cap or the underside of the bottom rail for the stamped series mark; if it’s faded, measure the rail width with a tape measure. TruExterior will read 1.5 inches by 3.5 inches actual, StoneGate will read slightly under. Signs Your Boral Fence Installation Is Failing

• Rails pulling out of posts at the bracket. The Boral rail bracket uses a two-screw connection into the post sleeve; when the sleeve material fatigues from thermal cycling, the screws strip their holes. You’ll see a gap between rail end and post face, and the fence will rack visibly when you push it.
• Picket tops turning chalky or fuzzy. On StoneGate, this means the capstock layer has UV-degraded, exposing the wood-fiber core to moisture. Once the core wets, freeze-thaw isn’t the issue in Huntington Beach, but mold feeding on the cellulose is - you’ll get black streaking within a season.

• Bottom rail bulging or separating from pickets. This is trapped water expanding the rail cavity, usually from sprinkler overspray hitting the fence daily.
